Episode 119: Footy, GTA 6, Pizza Disasters & BBQ Debates

Sometimes the best conversations don't need a big theme.

No special guest.

No deep dive.

No serious agenda.

Just a bunch of mates sitting down, catching up and talking about whatever comes to mind.

That's exactly what Episode 119 of the Bearded Mafia Podcast turned into.

After a few weeks apart, we jumped back behind the microphones and covered everything from AFL coaching dramas and NRL expansion teams to GTA 6, barbecue, pizza disasters and why pork might actually be the king of all meats.

Is Michael Voss Really The Problem?

The episode kicked off with a discussion about Carlton's struggles and whether Michael Voss deserved the criticism being thrown his way.

We talked about coaching styles, player expectations and whether modern athletes respond differently to the hard-nosed approach that coaches like Voss grew up under.

It also sparked a broader conversation about professional sport and whether clubs sometimes pay players based on potential rather than proven performance.

The AFL's Next Big Expansion

With Tasmania preparing to enter the AFL, we discussed what their draft hand might look like and how quickly the league will want them to become competitive.

History has shown that expansion clubs can take years to build success, but Tasmania appears set to receive plenty of draft capital to help fast-track their list build.

The big question is whether they'll keep those picks or trade them for established stars.

Roadie Merch, GTA 6 And New Ideas

As always, our brains wandered into business ideas.

We discussed creating custom Roadie Hawaiian shirts inspired by the upcoming GTA 6 Vice City aesthetic and tossed around a few content ideas involving collaborative cooking videos, beer reviews and barbecue challenges.

Of course, the GTA 6 conversation quickly turned into speculation about trailers, pre-orders and whether Rockstar would finally reveal gameplay footage before launch.

Like most gamers, we're all buying it anyway.

The $130 Pizza Dough Disaster

One of the funniest stories of the episode came courtesy of Kroppy.

After ordering a stack of pizza bases, dough and flour through Uber Eats, he later jumped back on the app to order a few bread rolls.

Unfortunately, Uber had saved his previous cart.

A few minutes later, another $130 worth of pizza supplies was on the way to his house.

At this point, he claims he owns more pizza dough than some small pizzerias.

Temu Strikes Again

As if the pizza story wasn't enough, we also discussed the dangers of Temu shopping.

Between accidental purchases, mystery orders and enough heat presses to start a small manufacturing business, it's becoming increasingly clear that online shopping might be more dangerous than gambling.

The Great Meat Debate

No Bearded Mafia episode would be complete without talking food.

The conversation eventually turned into a full-scale debate about:

  • Pork vs chicken
  • Brisket being overrated
  • Beef cheeks and beef shanks
  • Leftover pizza
  • Cold chicken
  • Lamb sandwiches (Lambwiches - Patent Pending)
  • The best barbecue meats for low and slow cooking

Surprisingly, pork came out on top for most of us.

A few years ago that would have been unthinkable.

Why These Episodes Matter

Not every episode needs to solve the world's problems.

Sometimes it's just good to sit down, have a laugh and talk about sport, food, gaming and life with your mates.

That's what this episode is.

A relaxed catch-up full of opinions, stories, barbecue talk and the usual Bearded Mafia chaos.
